Question

A03 and A04. A stunt motorcyclist rides through a track a part of which is a vertical circle as shown in the diagram. The stunt cyclist carefully adjusts her/his speed to v = 15m/s so that it is CONSTANT as s/he executes this maneuver. The combined mass of the motorcycle plus rider is 550kg and the radius of the track is r = 7.5m A03. Caclulate the magnitude of the force exerted by the motor cycl on the track at position A. A04. What is the MINIMUM speed in m/s with which another stunt motorcyclist with the same motorbike but 75% of the body mass of the first stunt motorcyclist could complete the vertical loop?

Explanation / Answer

at position A :

Fn = normal force

m g = weight

force equation is given as

Fn + mg = m v2/r

Fn = m v2/r - mg

Fn = 550 (15)2 / 7.5 - 550 x 9.8

Fn = 11110 N
