Question
Nota mou Lab 9 - Population Genetics Sample Problems 1. In a randomly mating lab (encoded by the autosomal recessive b), and oratory population of Drosophila, 10% of the flies have black bodies 90% have brown bodies (encoded by B). If this population is assumed to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, what are the allele and b and the genotypic frequencies of BB and Bb? 2. The phenotypic frequency of people who cannot taste phenylthiocarbamide (PTC)s approximately 0.3. The inability to taste this bitter substance is due to a recessive allele. If we assume there are only two alleles in the population (tasters, T and nontasters, t) and that the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, calculate the frequencies of these two alleles. tongue is inherited as a recessive trait. The frequency of the rolling lling allele (R) is 0.4. What is theExplanation / Answer
1.According to given question
Recessive b is given to be 10%
So,bb=10%=0.1 (recessive,so bb)
According to Hardy Weinberg
p=dominant allele (B)
q=recessive (b)
q2=recessive(bb)
p2=dominant(BB)
So,we have q2=0.1 i.e bb
So,q= square root of 0.1
... = 0.3
q=0.3(allele b)
Now,according to hardy weinberg
p+q=1
So,p=1-0.3
p=0.7 (allele B)
So,f(B)=0.7
f(b)=0.3
So f(BB)=0.49 (genotype)
According to second equation of Hardy W
p2+2pq+q2=1
0.49+0.42+0.1=1
0.59+0.42=1
So f(Bb)= 0.42(genotype)
