What is the magnitude and direction of the force that must be employed to establish translational equilibrium?

Where along the rod must the force that you calculated in Part (a) be applied in order to produce rotational equilibrium?

Explanation / Answer

A) Total Force downwards = 1000+500+750 = 2250 N

Total upward force = 750 + 400 = 1150 N

Force for translation eq = 2250 - 1150 upwards = 1100 N upwards Answer

B) Torque balance about C

=> 1000*3 + 400*5 - 750*1 - 750*7 = 1100*x

=> -1000 = 1100x

=> x = 10/11 m left from C Answer
