Hyperthyroidism is a metabolic-hormonal disorder which is characterized by unusually low levels of TSH in the circulation. Since thyroid hormone is necessarily required for maintaining metaboilc rates of hte body. Hyperthyroidism has following impositions on the body:

Diagnosis: The clinical condition of hyperthyroidism can be directly investigated by the circulatory levels of TSH in the blood. Otherwise, a radiolabelled probe of iodine-125 can be inserted in the body and the same can be quantified in the plasma after a fixed period oftime. The amount of radioactivity in the sample gives an estimation of thyroid hormone in the body.

Signs and symptoms: The signs and symptoms for this disorder include servere decline in body weight, increased perspiration, high core body temperature, sweating tendency with increase heart rate, rapidly increased metabolism and feeling of adrenal rush.

Certainly, these symptoms can be confused with those of chronic infections and hormonal disorders, hence requires a specific diagnosis for investigation.

In order to simply rule out it from confusion of other disease, a blood test for estimation of total T3, T3 and TSH levels can be performed.

Although most of the types of hyperthyroidism are not genetically linked, Hashimoto hyperthyroidism is genetically controlled as an autoimmune disorder. However, it is not inherited from the parents to offsprings.

The disease is normally treated with supplementation of exogenous thyroxine based upon the circulatory levels of TSH in the patient.
