Question

Show all work, including formulas you use before you put the numbers in. Show all units. (For test practice use Capacitors not Resistors, change ohms to micro farads)

PART A.

Find the equivalent resistance of the network of resistors.

PART B

A measurement reveals that the potential difference across the set of resistors D, E, and F is 10.0 V.

b.Find the current and voltage for resistor D

c.Find the current and voltage for resistor E

d. Find the current and voltage for resistor F

(16 points) In the circuit at the right, resistor A = 5.1 , resistor B = 3.4 , resistor C = 7.1 , resistor D-4.5 resistor E = 1.5 and resistor F = 2.6 , ,

Explanation / Answer

E and F are in series combination Rs=R1 +R2=1.5+2.6=4.1ohm

4.1 ohm in parallel with 4.5 Rp=(4.1 x 4.5)/(4.1+4.5)

=18.45/8.6 =2.1ohm

2.1ohm in series with 7.1ohm =9.2 ohm

9.2 ohm in parallel with 3.4 ohm =(9.2 x3.4)/9.2+3.4

=31.28/12.6 =2.48ohm

2.48 ohm series with 5.1=7.58 ohm

b)P.D across D =10v

i=V/R

=10/4.5

=20/9 ampere

c) i=V/R

=10/1.5

=100/15 ampere

d)i=V/R

=10/2.6

=100/26 ampere
