Explanation / Answer

Here ,

ye it is possible for the ball to fall staright down as seen by the person standing at the side of road.

the person have to thorw the ball at the same velocity as the velocity of truck in backwards direction which will make the relative velocity of ball wrt the person standing on the side of road equal to zerpo.

for the person who threw the ball , will see the ball in projecitle motion , as he would have seen if he had thrown the ball while he was in rest.
