Question

Give an example of different net external forces acting on the same system to produce different accelerations. (b) Give an example of the same net external force acting on systems of different masses, producing different accelerations. (c) What law accurately describes both effects? State it in words and as an equation. Give an example of different net external forces acting on the same system to produce different accelerations. Explanation / Answer

According to newton's second law of motion

Fnet =m*a

Same system means mass of the body in every cases discussed below

if m is constant = 10 kg(say)
then if Fnet = 10 N

then accelaration a = F/m = 10/10 = 1 m/s^2

if Fnet = 20 N

accelaration a = Fnet/m = 20 /10 = 2 m/s^2

if Fnet = 30 N

accelaration a = 30 /10 =3 m/s^2

B) apply again Fnet = m*a

here Fnet = cnstant = 10 N

m*a = constant

for m1 = 2 kg then accelaration a1 = Fnet/m1 = 10/2 = 5 m/s^2

for m = 5 kg then accelaration a2 = Fnet/m2= 10/5 = 2 m/s^2

C) Net Force Fnet = m*a

Net Force acting on a system = product of mass and accelaration
