Question

The blocks A and B exert 10000N and 7500N force. Both blocks are initially held stationary. There is no friction and the pulleys and ropes have no mass. Find the velocity of block A 2.5 s after the blocks are released.

3. (30 points) In standard gravity (i.e., g = 9.81 m/s), the blocks A and B shown below exert 10000 N and 7500 N force, respectively. Both blocks are initially held stationary. There is no friction and the pulleys and ropes have no mass. Find the velocity of block A 2.5 s after the blocks are released. 12 -172-13 8 7500 N 10000 N

Explanation / Answer

to get accelaration 'a' value

with given values substituting

(WA - T) /  WA = (T - WB ) WB

(10000 - T) / 10000 = (T - 7500) / 7500

[1 - (T / 10000)] = [T / 7500 - 1 ]

2 - T / 10000 + T /7500 = 0

2 - T(17500 / 75000000) = 0

T = 8571 N

after this

a = g (WA - T) / WA

a = 9.8(10000 - 8571) / 10000

a = 9.8 X 1429 / 10000

a = 14004.2 / 10000

a = 1.4 m/s2

then to find velocity

v = u +at

v = 0 + 1.4 X 2.5

v = 3.5 m/s
