Question
The figure shows an end view of two wires carrying current. means that the direction of the current points into the page and means out of the page. What is the direction of the force that wire 1 exerts on wire 2? Refer to the figure in question 1. Is the direction of the magnetic field around wire one clockwise or counter - clockwise? Two wires carrying equal currents exert a force F0 on each other. The current in each wire is doubled, while the distance of separation remaining constant. What is the magnitude of the force that one wire exerts on the other? Refer to the configuration in Step 2 of the experiment, if the electronic balance reading decreases as the current increases, is the magnetic force attractive or repulsive? When a magnetic field is parallel to a current-carrying wire, what is the force on the wire?Explanation / Answer
Q3.force between two current carrying wires is given by
force per unit length=mu*I1*I2/(2*pi*r)
where I1=current in first wire
I2=current in second wire
r=distance between the two
so if r is being kept constant and current I1 and I2 are doubled, then force will increase by 2*2=4 times
Q4. there is no step 2 of the experiment provided in the question. so this particular question can not be answered.
Q5. force on a current carrying wire due to magnetic field=current *(cross product of L and B)
where L is directed along the direction of current flow
as here the field and current direction are along the same direction (because they are parallel)
cross product is 0.
hence force is zero.
