Question

1-To start an avalanche on a mountain slope, an artillery shell is fired with an initial velocity of 330 m/s at 49.0° above the horizontal. It explodes on the mountainside 40.0 s after firing. What are the x and y coordinates of the shell where it explodes, relative to its firing point?

x=.......... m

y=...........m

2-An astronaut on a strange planet finds that she can jump a maximum horizontal distance of 14.0 m if her initial speed is 2.00 m/s. What is the free-fall acceleration on the planet? (Ignore air resistance.) (m/s^2)

(a) Find the vector position of the particle at any time t (where t is measured in second)

(b) Find the velocity of the particle at any time t.

    (c) Find the coordinates of the particle at t = 5.00 s.

x=...........m

y=............m

(d) Find the speed of the particle at t = 5.00 s.

Explanation / Answer

There are multiple questions here . i am allowed to answer only 1 at a time. I will answer question 1 for you.Please ask other as different question.

1.
V = 330m/s at 49 degree above horizontal
Horizontal component,Vx= 330 cos 49 = 216.5 m/s
Vertical component, Vy= 330 sin 49 = 290.1 m.s

In x direction,there is no acceleration,
so, x = Vx*t
= 216.5* 40
= 4660 m

In y direction,there is acceleration = 9.8 m/s^2
y = Vy*t - 0.5*g*t^2
= 290.1 * 40 - 0.5*9.8* (40)^2
= 3764 m

Answer:
x = 4660 m
y = 3764 m
