Question
For an object falling freely from rest, find the law that correctly describes the distance traveled during each successive second. (Using the two pictures above, what do you think the answer is)
The distance traveled during each successive second increases in two times (2, 4, 8, 16, etc.). The distance traveled during each successive second increases in the ratio of successive even integers (2, 4, 6, etc.). The distance traveled during each successive second increases in three times (1, 3, 9, 27, etc.). The distance traveled during each successive second increases in the ratio of successive odd integers (1, 3, 5, etc.).Explanation / Answer
From the picture initially for 1 sec distance travelled is less but it keeps increassing.
y1= 4.9 m
y2=19.6 m
y3= 44.1 m
in 1st second, distance travelled ,d1 = 4.9 m
in 2nd second, distance travelled ,d2= 19.6-4.9 = 14.7 m
in 3rd second, distance travelled , d3 = 44.1 - 19.6 = 24.5 m
d2/d1=14.7/4.9 = 3
d3/d1 = 24.5/4.9= 5
So answer is:
The distance traveled during each successive second increases in the ratio of successive odd integers (1, 3, 5, etc.)
