Question

NEX Chapter 05, problem 050 In the figure here three ballot boxes are connected by cords, one of which wraps over a pulley having negligible friction on its axle and negligible mass. The masses are mA 31 g, mB 44 kg, and mc 11 kg. When the assembly is released from rest, (a) what is the tension in the cord connecting B and C, and (b) how far does A move in the first o 30o s (assuming it does not reach the pulley)? Explanation / Answer

tension Connecting block A qand B is T2
now balancing the foce on block B
(mB + mC)g = T2 + (mB + mC)a
and on block A
maa = T2
therefore putting this value in above equation we get
(mB + mC)g = maa + (mB + mC)a
therfore a = 6.274 m/s2
Now balance force at the block C
mcg = mca + T1
therefore
(a) T1 = 38.8977 N
(b) the distacne moved by the block A in 0.3 s
S = ut+ 0.5at2 = 0 + 0.5*6.274*.32 = .28233 m
