Question

5A) What is the initial speed of the projectile?

5B) What is the initial angle of the projectile?

5C) What is the x velocity of the projectile 0.800s?

5D) What is the y velocity of the projectile 0.800s?

5E) What is the maximum height reached by the projectile?

5) In a projectile motion experiment, it was determined that the initial velocity in the x direction is 2.50 m/s and the initial velocity in the y direction is 4.50 m/s. If the projectile starts its motion at the origin, determine the following: (Assume g=9.80 m/s2)

Explanation / Answer

a) The intial speed is:

v = (vx²+vy²) = (2.5²+4.5²)= 5.1478 m/s

b) the angle is given by:

ø = tan¹(vy/vx) = 60.945

c) In a projectile motion the x velocity does not change so

Vx = 2.5 m/s

d) The y velocity is given by:

Vy = vy -gt = 4.50-9.80(0.8) = -3.34 m/s

e) The maximum height is reached when the vertical velocity is zero:

V²=vy² -2gh

0 = vy²-2gh

h = vy²/(2g)

h = 1.033 m
