Question

can anyone help with these physics lab questions? they are multiple choice.. thanks much!

Questions

1. Why does the acceleration column in the Excel tables always have one less value than the velocity column?

2. If friction is neglected, which of the following statements properly describe the motion of a heavy object thrown rigorously downward from a tall building? A. uniform speed B. constant acceleration C. uniformly increasing acceleration D. changing acceleration

3. Which of the following is not being accelerated? A. uniform speed B. a freely falling stone C. a satellite in a stable circular orbit D. a car moving with constant velocity E. a bullet in its trajectory. Explain why, using a formula!

4. If two objects travel the same distance in equal amounts of time, they must have the same A. final velocity B. initial velocity C. acceleration D. average velocity

5. Lt. Col. John L. Stapp achieved a speed of 632 mph (284 m/s) in an experimental rocket sled at the Holloman Air Base Development Center, Alamogordo, New Mexico, on March 19, 1954. Running on rails and propelled by nine rockets, the sled reached its top speed within 5.0 seconds. Stapp survived a maximum acceleration of 22 g's in slowing to rest during a time interval of 1.5 seconds (one g is an acceleration equal in magnitude to that due to gravity) State the formulas to identify variables in the calculations, labelling units in meters, seconds, etc.

A. Find the average acceleration in reaching maximum speed. B. How far did the sled travel before attaining maximum speed? C. Find the average acceleration while stopping

Explanation / Answer

1.Acceleration is rate of change of velocity so the acceleration column in the Excel tables always have one less value than the velocity column, a= v2-v1/t.

2.If friction is neglected, the motion of a heavy object thrown rigorously downward from a tall building is wity constant acceleration ( only the gravitaional force is acting on the body which is constant on any size of the body it may be).

3.D. a car moving with constant is the appropriate answer , but option a is not correct thought uniform speed ( speed is magnitude of velocity)

4.If two objects travel the same distance in equal amounts of time, they must have the same AVERAGE ACCELERATION.

5. Given stabb reached 284 m/s in 5 s, slows down to 22g in 1.5 s

a)the average acceleration in reaching maximum speed is v2-v1/t2-t1= (284-0) m/s /(0- 5)s = 56.8 m/s2

b) V^2-U^2= 2*g*s => s= V^2/2*g => s= 284^2/2*9.8 = 411.510 m

c) 14.66 m/s2
