Determination of Equipment Capacitance To gather useful data, the capacitance of the electrometer and cables will be found. A known capacitor charged to a specific voltage will add a fixed amount of charge to the system and this information can be used to calculate the system capacitance. The instructor will provide a known capacitor. When this known capacitor CK is charged to a known voltage, the charge contained is known: QK = CKVK. CK is then connected in parallel to CE and CC. When this occurs, the electrometer will display a voltage, V epsilon. Q1: Prove that CE + CC = Ck (Vk - VE)/V. . Hint: conservation of charge.
