Question
1. Suppose you have a circuit consisting of three resistors (R1 = 1 , R2-2 and R,-3 ) and a power supply (Vpply9 V). If the resistors are connected in series, draw the circuit diagram and find equivalent resistance )Ray for the three resistors. Also determine how much current is "drawn" from the power supply and the potential difference across R2. b) Repeat part (a) for the case when the three resistors are in parallel. Sich boe ty cane (onjoais ' om beai forn bow pou can obtain the resistance of the device from this type of plotExplanation / Answer
When all the three resistors are in series then
Req = 1+2+3 =6ohms
Given that voltage is V =9V
Now current passing through the cicuit is
V =IR then I =V/Req =9/6 =1.5A
Now current will be same through all the resistors in series but potential diffrence will be diffrent
V2 =(1.5A)(2) =3V
If the three resistors are in parallel then
1/Req =1/1+1/2+1/3 =1+0.5+0.33 =1.833
Then Req =1/1.833 =0.545ohms
Now in parallel combination potential diffrence will be same i.e 9V across all the resistors
But the current will be divided in i = i1+i2+i3
i =(V/R1)+(V/R2)+(V/R3)
Now the current in the second resistance is i2 =V/R2 =9/2 =4.5A
From the I-V graph we know that from ohms law V =IR
Now resistance is R =V/I ( take theco-ordinates of voltage and current from the graph)
