Question

10. Find the equivalent capacitance between points a and b for the group of capacitors connected as shown in the figure if Ci = 6.00 Mu F, C2 = 12.0 Mu F, and C3= 3.00 Mu F. 11. For the network described in the previous problem if the potential difference between points a and b is 60.0 V. what charge is stored on C3? Energy Stored in Charged Capacitors 12. Two capacitors C1 = 30.0 .Mu F and C2 = 5.00 Mu F are connected in parallel and charged with a 141 -V power supply. (a) Draw a circuit diagram and calculate the total energy stored in the two capacitors. (b) What potential difference would be required across the same two capacitors.

Explanation / Answer

for loop in which C3 is present, C1 and C2 are in series

so Cs = C1*C2/(C1+C2) = 12*6/18 = 4uF

Now Cs,Cs and C3 are in parallel

so Cp = C3+Cs+Cs = 11uF

and C2.C2 are in parallel so Ceff = 24uF

now acoording to voltage divison rule

voltage across Cp = Voltage across C3 = Vab * Ceff / (Ceff+Cp) = 60*24/35 = 41.143 volts
