Question
I've been doing some problems and in my book it sometimes shows the focal point (F1) being on the left side while F2 is on the right (image 1), and sometimes it shows F2 (C2) on the left side and F1 on the right ( image 2). When I'm doing the problems both F2 and R2 (radius of curvature) are on the left and F1 and R2 are on the right. Is this always the case for a converging lens? How about for a diverging lens?
Thank you
Optic axis (passes through centers of curvature of both lens surfaces) Measured from lens center. Always the same on both sides of the lens. For a converging thin lens, f is positive.Explanation / Answer
we can take f1 and f2 on any side of the lens according to our wish iin both cases.
