Question

I was wondering if there is such thing as a CD where youcan listen to biology book or (readalong) or or anykind of learning CDs you can watch(orbiology book of anykind that can help you memorize biology. Theones where you can listen to in the car for example. (not the onesthat come w book they never help) I have been searching online, nohelp, I asked librarian, no help, I dont think they understand whatI am asking lol. But something you can listen to on a dialy basisto help enhance biology learning. I am a very visual learner, I can never understand a topic w/othe professor writiing on board or drawing an illustrationespecially biochem, there is no way I could remember all thebiochem pathways, its too much info. But I think ifI can listen to CD or watch orread along book(if such thing) I think I could grasp the conceptsmuch better. I dont like memorizing it hurts my brain, I thinkunderstanding why everyting is happening makes it a lot easier tolearn instead of just memorizing things just to pass theclass, once class is over, I can not succeed in next level, becauseI have forgotten concepts. I really would be grateful if you could help! Thank You, Mimzy

Explanation / Answer

Ok, I think you are in the same boat as a lot of biology students.  I find it very hard to just memorize things.  I need to see things.  My strategy is to "tell a story."  For example, the cell is hungry so it needs to break down some glucose to get some energy.  First the glucose gets phosphorylated and eventually gets converted to pyruvate, a molecule that goes to the mitochondria... etc.  While you're telling this story to yourself or whoever try to draw it out on a piece of paper.  If you have no paper, picture the molecules in your head.  I used to think that listening to the kreb's cycle over and over again would help me learn it but the best way for me was to say it and to picture it.  If you're determined to listen to something i would recommend trying audiobook.com.  They have narratives of almost everything.  You will have to pay for it though.  Hope this helps :)
