A 70.0-cm, uniform, 48.0-N shelf is supported horizontally by two vertical wires attached to the sloping ceiling (the figure (Figure 1) ). A very small 28.0-N tool is placed on the shelf midway between the points where the wires are attached to it.

Find the tension in left wire.

Find the tension in right wire

*****typo on image**** problem says 70 cm but image says 75 cm. I have worked both numbers and still cannot get the right answer.

Mastering says the answers are 28.4 for left and 47.6 for right.

PLEASE HELP EXPLAIN how to get these answers!

net torque about right end = 0

Fl*L - M*g*L/2 - m*g*L/2 = 0

Fl = (Mg + mg)/2

Fl = (48+28)/2 = 38 N

along vertical Fnet = 0

Fl + Fr - Mg - mg = 0

Fr = 38 N
