Question

1. A car is driven around a circular track. Which would have a greater effect on the magnitude of
its acceleration, doubling the speed or moving to a track with half the radius? Please show your
proof or calculations.

2. Define centripetal force (Fc), When you go around a corner in a car, do you feel centripetal or centrifugal (Fg) force acting upon you?

3. Explain why ?F = mg? = ?Fc = 4 * pi^2 * M * f^2 *r?

M is mass, f is the frequency, r is the radius

4. Imagine that a much harder spring (spring with higher spring constant k) is used in the experiment. Explain how the centripetal force Fc and the frequency f of the hanging mass will change.

EDIT: After graphing the centripital force and circular acceleartion on excel, I use excel featuers to find the slope. The question is why would I expect the result I got for the slope?

Calculate the actual slope of best fit line. Also calculate the percent error for the slope, and
state and explain the sources of error.

Also, how do I find the y intercept for my line with my points of centripital acceleration and force?

Explanation / Answer

1)Doubling the speed would quadruple the acceleration while halving the radius would only double the acceleration.

Centripetal acceleration is usually written as:

A = V
