Question
1) Consider the circuit shown in the following figure. Find (a) the equivalent resistance of the circuit. (b) the current in the 20-Ohm resistor. (c) the potential difference between points a and b. 2) Consider the combination of the resistors given in the following figure. (a) Find the equivalent resistance between points a and b. (b) If a voltage of 35.0-V is applied between points a and b, find the current flowing in the 5.00-Ohm resistor. (c) the potential difference between points a and b. please help me answer this question? I only got part A&B; of number 2 right.Explanation / Answer
1.
a)
5 and 20 ohms are in series
5+20 =25 ohms
25 ,5 and 10 ohms are in parallel
1/R =1/25 +1/5 +1/10
R=2.94 ohms
10 and 2.94 ohms are in series ,so equivalent resitance
Req=10+2.94=12.94 ohms
b)
Voltage across 10,5, and 25 ohms is
V10=V5=V25=25*(2.94/10+2.94) =5.68 Volts
so current through 20 ohms is
I20=V25/R =5.68/20
I20=0.284 A
c)
Vab=5.68 Volts
2.
a)
12 and 6 ohms are in parallel
1/R =1/12+1/6
R=4 ohms
4 and 8 ohms are in parallel
1/R =1/4 +1/8
R=2.667 ohms
4 ,2.667 and 5 ohms are in series ,so equivalent resitance
Req=4+2.667+5 =11.67 ohms
b)
Current flowing in 5 ohms is
I5=Vab/Req =35/11,67 = 3 A
c)
Vab=35 Volts
