Gauss Law Quick Question
A charged sphere of radius R1=0.2 cm and total charge Q=4.8 nanoCoulomb is placed at the
center of a hollow spherical conducting shell (inner radius R2=1 cm, outer radius R3=2 cm)
which has a net charge Qshell= - 4.0 nanoCoulomb. (See the figure, but note that the figure is not
drawn to scale)
Determine the resulting charge density ? on the inner surface of the conducting spherical shell.
(Give your answer in units of nanoCoulomb / cm2)

PLEASE ANSWER THIS AS NEAT AND AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE. Hand written = better
Explanation / Answer
The charge on a conducting body can reside only on it' s surface.
Therefore, the charge on the ineer surface=-charge on the solid sphere=-4.8nC
Charge density=Q/Area of inner surface=Q/4pir^2=-(4.8*10^-9)/(4pi*0.01^2)=3.82*10^-6C/m^2
