A virtual image is formed 24.5 cm from a concave mirror having a radius of curvature of 45.0 cm. (a) Find the position of the object.
cm in front of the mirror
(b) What is the magnification of the mirror?
(a) Find the position of the object.
cm in front of the mirror
(b) What is the magnification of the mirror?
Explanation / Answer
apply for concave mirror 1/f = 1/u + 1/v
u = object distance,
v= image distance
and f = focal length = R/2 = 45/2 = 22.5 cm
so 1/u = 1/f -1/v
u = vf/(v-f)
u = 24.5* 22.5/(24.5+22.5)
u = 11.72 cm
------------------------------
magnification m = -v/u = -24.5/11.72 = 2.09
