Explanation / Answer

2 minority populations selected are :

1. Black african/ american

2. American indian/ alaska

Demographics: Black africans/ americans are at 12.7 million of the total american population. the largest age group comprises 18 years and over for almost 74% of the population. The native american population stands at 2 % percent of the total population, with the largest age group being 18 years and over with a percentage of 72%.

Cultural Norms: Black americans generally have a high fatty food diet with less fibre intake leading to high prevalence of obeisity among blacks. Majority of families in poor neighbourhoods have diets that were readily available like processed foods, soda/juice, old or bad cuts of meat and foods rich in starch. Sedantry lifestyle and physical inactivity is also high among this population. Native americans on the other hand due to rural living and location, have a poor access to nutritious food and also consume readily available non nutritious food. Rural living also allows for inactivity with high rates of obesity in the population.

Religious and Spiritual beliefs: most of the blacks have an unrealistic expectation on their religion for healing power and hence neglect to visit community health centres. This is the same scenario in native americans as they also believe in natural therapy.

Primary Insurance Coverage: 54 percent are insured, while another 50 percent rely on medicaid services. 47% percent of native americans had private insurance, while 38 percent rely on medicaid services.

Education: 84% among blacks, and 82% among native americans.

Medical conditions: African Americans have a higher risk for the following- heart diseases, stroke, cancer, asthma, influenza and pneumonia, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and homicide. Native americans frequently showed heart disease, cancer, accidents, diabetes, and stroke, mental health and suicide, obesity, substance abuse, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), teenage pregnancy, liver disease, and hepatitis.
