Question
The drawing shows three objects. They are connected by strings that pass over massless and friction-free pulleys. The objects move, and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the middle object and the surface of the table is 0.135. (a) What is the acceleration of the three objects? (b) Find the tension in the string attached to the 25.0 kg object. (c) Find the tension in the string attached to the 10.0 kg object.
(c) Find the tension in the string attached to the 10.0 kg objectExplanation / Answer
Let the tension in the string supporting the 25 kg block be T1 and that in the 10 kg block be T2.
For 25 kg block,
25g-T1=25a.
For 10 kg block,
T2-10g=10a.
For the block kept on the table,
T1-T2-80g*0.135=80a.
The acceleration of the three blocks will be same.Solve the three equations to get your answer
15*9.81-35a-80*9.81*0.135=80a
a=0.358
T1=236.3
T2=101.68
