Question
8) Two resistors of 5.0 and 9.0 Omega are connected in parallel. A 4.0- Omega resistor is then connected in series with the parallel combination. A 6.0-V battery is then connected to the series-parallel combination. (a) What is the current through the 4.0- Omega resistor? (b) What is the current through the 5.0- Omega resistor? (c) What is the current through the 9.0- Omega resistor? 9) A coffee maker, which draws 13.5 A of current, has been left on for 10.0 min. What is the net number of electrons that have passed through the coffee maker?Explanation / Answer
combine parallel resistors
1/5 + 1/9 = 1/R
9/45 + 5/45 = 14/45
R = 45/14
combine with 4
so R = 45/14 +4= 7.2 ohms
V = I r
I = 6/7.2=0.83 A
things in series share current so I 4 ohm = 0.83 A
b)
V parallel = 0.83*45/14= 2.67 V
I 5 ohms = 2.67/5= 0.53 A
c) I 9 ohms = 2.67/9 = 0.297 A
9) I = q/t
q = I t = 13.5*10*60= 8100 C
Number = q/e = 8100/1.6E-19=5.06E22
