Question

A car travels a certain distance along a straight road (in the +x direction). The distance the car travels as a function of time is shown in the figure below. When the car changes speed it does so uniformly. Select the appropriate choice for each statement: T-True, F-False, G-Greater than, L-Less than, E-Equal to. (If the first is T, the second is G, and the rest E, enter TGEEEE).

A) The x-acceleration is ..... zero at 36 sec .

B) The acceleration magnitude at 15 sec is ..... the acceleration magnitude at 36 sec.

C) The speed is ..... zero at 26 sec.

D) The speed at 50 sec is ..... the speed at 67 sec.

E) At 67 sec, the speed is as high as it gets.

F) The x-acceleration is ..... zero at 26 sec .

I though it was GLEGFE but apparently I've got something wrong.

Explanation / Answer

a)equal
at 36 sec , its a straight line which has constant slope.
slope = speed
speed not changing
means a= 0

b) at t= 15 sec it also straight line
so similarly a = 0
equal.

c) at 26 distance is not changing .
means object at rest .
v = 0
equal.

d) speed = slope
slope at 50 greater than at 67 .
speed will be in same beahiover.
greater .

e) true
acc. is positive or zero throughout the motion .
so speed will never decreased .

f) at 26 speed=0
so a =0
equal
