Question

Please help in answering these questions. I have done the majority, but am not sure I've done them correctly.

I would appreciate a drawing or explanation with the answer. Best answer gets the points!! I will post the link to the third part below.

2. Light Waves Interference

1. Change the simulation to show extremely slowed light emission from the single slit light source.

(a) What do you do to achieve this? ___________

(b) Describe your observation of the graph when amplitude changes

(c) Describe your observation of the graph when wavelength changes

2. Move the wavelength slider to red light then to blue light. What are the wavelengths you read from the graph?

Red ____________        Blue: ___________

3. Add the screen to show how the light would look if viewed on a screen. Now add a second light source and view the interference pattern they create on the screen.

(a) Sketch the interference pattern you saw on the screen.

(b) Add the intensity graph and sketch what you observed.

4. What effect does the amplitude have on the maxima separation in the interference pattern? (You will have to wait few seconds to see any changes)

5. What effect does the source spacing have on the maxima separation in the interference pattern? Sketch what you saw as part of your explanation.

6. What effect does wavelength have on the maxima separation in the interference pattern?

Explanation / Answer

In interfreence or diffraction pattern

the needed equation is Y = mLR/d---------------1

and d sin theta = mL--------------------2

where L = wavelgnth

m = order = 1,2,3,4, ......... for brigth bands

m = 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, ......for dark bands

R is the distance from slit to screen

Y = disatnce from central spot to nth order fringe or fringe width

-------------------------------------------------------------
so here now

2. as d increases, Y decrses

as L inceases, Y also increases
