Question

A defibrillator passes a brief burst of current through the heart to restore normal beating. In one such defibrillator, a 40.0 µF capacitor is charged to 6.0 kV. Paddles are used to make an electrical connection to the patient's chest. A pulse of current lasting 1.0 ms partially discharges the capacitor through the patient. The electrical resistance of the patient (from paddle to paddle) is 210 . What is the initial current through the patient?

Ive been struggling with this question, if someone could help that would be awesome! I would also appreciate an explanation along with the answer so I can understand how it was done. Thank you (:

Explanation / Answer

c=qv

where c is the capacitance ,q is the charge and v is the voltage so q=c/v=6.0 kV/40.0 µF

so q =6.0 kV/40.0 µF

also we know that current = charge per second i.e.q=it,where q is charge ,i =current and t=time so

current =q/t=i=(6.0 kV/40.0 µF)/1.0 ms

which gives the initail current
