Question
Use the exact exponential treatment to find how much time is required to bring the current through an 80.0 mH inductor in series with a 18.0 ohm resistor to 99.0% of its final value, starting from zero.
ANSWER: Okay, I found the answer to this using the equation I=I0(1-e^(-Rt/L)).....It is 20.5 ms
However, I cannot figure out how to answer the follow up question, which is:
Compare your answer to the approximate treatment using integral numbers of ? (time constant).
I understand what they are asking, but all of my attempts have been incorrect.I'm doing something wrong. Some help would be appreciated.
Explanation / Answer
T(tau) = L/R = 7.50
