Cultural competence refers to the ability of healthcare workers and health systems to comprehend and integrate these factors in their patient care so that high-quality and evidence-based patient care is always provided irrespective of patient’s age, race, sex, ethnicity, cultural background.
Therefore, in this case, the required patient’s information to foster culturally competent care are: Patient’s age, sex, occupational status, belief and behaviour about health, well-being and illness, race, ethnicity, nationality, etc. By analysing these details and integrating into the care plan, a nurse can provide holistic care to this patient.
Questions to be evaluated before providing culturally competent care:
Before providing nursing care to this patient, we must collect and analyse all the pertinent cultural-specific details like her ethnicity, race, cultural patterns, language, any language barriers, etc. All these details play a major role in selecting appropriate interventions related to her care.
