She has a open sore on her middle toe that is not healing. What physical factors (related to her current body issues) will you consider in developing a nutrition care plan for her? (at least 4 factors-think about what she might have going on based on her age) Why are these factors important to consider? Be as specific as possible.

Explanation / Answer

In case of elderly patient the recovery period is quite slower compare to young age patients of Diabetes mellitus type 2.

Physical factors related to her current issues are age, physically weak, risk of having higher hyperglycemia, and set of other complication of late healing, anxiety , chronic ulceration, limb amputation etc. diabetes leads to functional disorder at every step. All the above factors will make the recovery period late due to weak immunity to fight back with the disorders.

Maintaining a balance weight and blood sugar level is significantly important for elderly patients. Fibres intake natural fruits and green vegetables plus proper intake of medicine should be taken care. Proper intake of carbohydrate is important plus exercise and maintaining good timings with food intake will help to recover better and strengthen the immunity.
