Answer to question 1
We shouldn’t trust the tobacco industry to regulate their products. Tobacco industry usually provide misleading information and usually find many ways to market their products.
2)- Discuss the health hazards associated with tobacco. Who should be responsible for the medical expenses of smokers? Insurance companies? Smokers themselves?
There are many health hazards associated with tobacco. Tobacco use causes cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, coronary heart disease and cardiac arrest.
Respiratory Diseases are also caused by tobacco usage. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma and Tuberculosis are usually seen in patients who are regular smokers.
Smoking builds very bad effect on pregnancy. Smoking causes Bleeding during pregnancy, Miscarriage/abortion, premature delivery of baby and Abnormalities of the placenta.
Below are the few more conditions which can be caused by smoking.
Diabetes, Erectile dysfunction, Kidney damage and inflammatory bowel diseases.
Smokers themselves should be responsible for medical expenses. Insurance shouldn’t be given for smoking related diseases. This stand will reduce smoking habits.
3) Describe the various methods of tobacco cessation. Which would be the most effective method for you or someone who you know who is a smoker? Explain why you chose this method
There are various methods of tobacco cessation and some work better than others. The best plan is the one you can stick with.
Cold turkey method- Most of the people who try to quit smoking try this method. In this there’s is no outside help and people try to stop smoking completely in a matter of a day.
This is not a very effective method.
Behavioural therapy – In this the smoker has to work with a counsellor to find ways not to smoke.
Nicotine replacement therapy- This work by providing you nicotine without the use of tobacco. Nicotine gum, patches, inhalers, sprays, and lozenges are nicotine replacement therapies.
Medication- There are few medications that can help with cravings and symptoms from withdrawals
Nicotine replacement therapy would be the most effective method that I would suggest. This is because it helps to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting. It can be also combined with Behavioural therapy.
