Explanation / Answer
Muscles contain soft tissue among higher level organisms. It contain protein filaments of actin and myosin that slide and produce contraction as a result length and shape of the cell change. Muscle helps in locomtion and movement changing posture, in the contraction of heart and also also in digestion.
In vertebrates three types of muscle tissue are found:
Skeletal muscle or striated : It has striated, tubular, multinucleated fibres. It is usually attached to skeleton and is voluntary in nature
Smooth muscle: it is non-striated spindle shape contain uninucleated fibres. It occurs in walls of internal organs and is involuntary in nature.
Cardiac muscle: It contain striated, branch uninucleated fibers. It found in walls of the heart and is involuntary in nature.
Skeletal muscle types:
Slow twitch muscle: efficient in using oxygen and delay muscle firing, do not get fatigue easily. It is best suited for cycling, marathon, sports etc. It provides stamina and have more myoglobin.
Fast twithch muscle: This do not burn oxygen to create energyand fast in firing. It does get tired easily.Best suited for short burst of activities, pole vaulting etc. It provides strength and have less myoglobin.
Types of muscle contraction are below:
Concentric contraction: It is shortening contraction i.e., positive contraction.
Eccentric contraction: It is longening contraction i.e., negative contraction.
Isometric contraction: Muscle contracts occurs but length remains the same i.e., shortening happens.
Isotonic contraction: muscle contracts and length changes happens i.e., elongation happens.
By the process of myogenesis muscle cells are derived from the mesodermal layer of embryonic germ cells. All muscles are derived from paraxial mesoderm. It helps in contraction, movement and maintaining the posture of the body. It is composed of fibrous tissue. It helps in providing power and strength.
