The family asked only that the money be "put to the best use possible." Everyone in this small facility had an opinion about the "best" use for the money. The administrator wanted to renovate the old, run-down headquarters. The financial officer wanted to put the money in the bank "for a rainy day." The chaplain wanted to add a small chapel to the building. The nurses wanted to create a food bank to help the poorest of their clients. The social workers wanted to buy a van to transport clients to health-care providers. The staff agreed that all the ideas had merit, that all of the needs identified were important ones. Unfortunately, there was enough money to meet only one of them. The more the staff members discussed how to use this gift, the more insistent each group became that their idea was best. At their last meeting, it was evident that some were becoming frustrated and that others were becoming angry. It was rumored that a shouting match between the administrator and the financial officer had occurred. 1. In your analysis of this situation, identify the sources of the conflict that are developing in this facility. 2. What kind of leadership actions are needed to prevent the escalation of this conflict? 3. If the conflict does escalate, how could it be resolved? 4. Which idea do you think has the most merit? Explanation / Answer

1. The main source of barrier or reason for such conflict is the communication gap and unity in the team. Everyone has rights to give their opinion on the way money should be utilised, but finally due to avoid conflict by the medium of communication and discussion everyone should utilise the money in the best way possible and all the staff members of comittee as well as health care should agree on it.

2. A leader should listen to all the options that are put forward and he should take the decision for one which going to benefit all members as well as patients. But he should provide the freedom by putting everyone on the same page to keep their honest opinion.

3. The conflict can be resolved by working on the root cause of the problem i.e, unity. A leader should take his own stand and decision about the way money will be utilise so that every other members should agree his opinion. He can even put his or her perspective to convince members about his decision.

4. Creation of food banks for their poor clients, I feel this idea should be appreciated as much people can get the benefit as well if food are made available at the lower price it will benefit alot of clients simultanously.

5. I can personally go and discuss with each member of the different department the pros and cons of their perspective that is the benefit of all the plans in long term, As a result unity and communication can be developed. later a meeting can be organised where opinion of everone will be taken and open discussion will allow everyone to discuss and debate about the positive and negative perspective of the plan and with the unity of everyone the right deciion for the benefit of people can be taken.
