3. Discuss the different mediums used in getting Public health education out to the public and compare it to how information was disseminated 20 years ago vs. today. List the pros and cons of both. i.e. social media vs. flyers etc.

Diabetes is an emergent public health issue in the US. As per the information from the American Diabetes Association, 30.3 million Americans, or 9.4% of the population, have diabetes.

Diabetes is the main reason of limb amputation, heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, blindness as well as the seventh main cause of death.

There are mainly two type of Diabetes. Type 1 and Type 2.

Type1 diabetes occurs when our immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. Type 2 diabetes is caused by several factors, including lifestyle factors and genes. Diabetes can be controlled with better lifestyle. Studies have shown that, with good administration, many of the complications of diabetes can be controlled or delayed. Effective administration includes lifestyle measures such as a healthy diet, exercise, maintaining appropriate weight and not smoking.

Programs should be launched to stimulate and support the adoption of effective measures for the surveillance, prevention and control of diabetes. Best way to control diabetes is to make awareness about diabetes and its complications. There should be initiatives to help people with diabetes to acquire the knowledge and skills to manage their own condition.
