Question
As per the instructor's directions, read and discuss the scenario, below, that has been assigned to your class Scenario 1: Neuromuscular reaction time can be influenced by a number of different factors. Design an experiment where neuromuscular reaction time and the factors that influence it are tested among different individuals. This can be tested by measuring how quickly a person can grasp a falling meter stick Scenario 2: Termites are social insects that live in colonies, which can have millions of termites. Termites have a structured social system with the ability to communicate between individuals and groups using pheromone signals. Design and conduct an experiment where you test the termites ability to communicate with each other. The first step in the scientific method is making observations. To begin exploring this scenario, as a group, summarize the group's collective knowledge about the scenario at hand. For instance, what factors might influence the subject being tested? Make notes below that summarize the group's discussion about the characteristics of the scenario and anything that could influence the scenario at hand. What criteria can be used to judge the quality of a "good question"? Use the observations gathered above and design scientifically answerable questions based scenario. Propose questions based on these criteria and the gathered observations. choose four to five observations to create questions. These questions will then be discussed as a class. Write the proposed questions in the space below.Explanation / Answer
Discussion about scenario 1:
Many factors can affect the neuromuscular reaction time, but usually it is measured based on the stimulus which include reaction, recognition and response to the particular stimulus. Aging is another factor where reaction time is slow with age. If the person is too relax or excited, the reaction time will be slow. In the same way,in time of life threatening situation, the response will be rapid. Exercises will improve the balance, strength and coordination of neuromuscular system. This can tested by conducting a study on persons with 12 week exercise program. Assessment of neuromuscular control, quadriceps muscle strength, reaction time should be done before and at the end of program. On the completion of study, the group with regular exercise will show the improvement in neuromuscular reaction time, whereas another nonexercises group does not show any improvement. The falling meter stick can be tested by
Discussion about scenario 2:
Termites mostly communicate through chemical messaging. Another way is communicate through pheromones and termite trails.Termites bang their head when danger arises, to protect against the walls. A vibration arise from the pheromones that accompany all the soldiers to protect against the colony. Termite trail helps to locate the food and back to the colony. Pheromones play a vital role in need of new reproductive.
