c. Breast cancer is not possible in males which is why it is not included in prevalence figures
d. There are more cases of breast cancer than prostate cancer
Explanation / Answer
1. What happens during Anaphase?
a. Chromosomes align along the middle plane
b. Centromeres separate and pull newly replicated chromosomes apart
c. Chromosomes coil and shorten
d. A new membrane forms around chromosomes
Anaphase is the third stage of mitotic phase representing somatic (body) cell division. During anaphase, each centromeres pair gets split/separated (by a structure called mitotic spindle) into two identical and independent structures called chromosomes. These separated chromosomes then move towards the opposite poles of the cell.
So Option B.
2. Between 2011 and 2015, which cancer incidence has increased significantly?
a. Pancreatic
b. Leukaemia
c. Cervical
d. Melanoma
As per the American Cancer Society Surveillance Research, in the United States, the estimated number of new cases of melanoma of skin is 73,870 in both the sexes compared to 48,960 of pancreatic cancer, 54,270 of leukaemia and 2,970 of bones and joints.
So option D.
3. Which of the following is a gender difference in cancer prevalence?
a. Females have a lower survival rate than males
b. Males have a higher overall prevalence of cancer than females
c. Breast cancer is not possible in males which is why it is not included in prevalence figures
d. There are more cases of breast cancer than prostate cancer
There is a difference in cancer incidence between males and females with males having a higher proportion of cancer. This is due to hormonal (difference in the hormones between males and females) and behavioural differences (most of the males have smoking, drinking habits). (option B)
As per the American Cancer Society Surveillance Research, in the United States, the number of breast cancer among men is 2,350. The number of deaths of men due to various cancer types are more than the numbers among women. (Option A and C is excluded)
So option B.
