Alpha Centauri A is a G2 class star with an absolute magnitude of +4.34. What kind of star is it? 30) 31) What can you tell me about the lifecycle of Alpha Centauri? 32) Is Alpha Centauri A a happy stable star? It so why? If not why not? Betelgeuse is a M2 class star with an absolute magnitude of -5.14. kind of star is it? 33) What What does the position of Betelgeuse on the H-R Diagram tell you about where it is in its life cycle? 34) 35) Sirius B is a B2 class star with an absolute magnitude of +11.30? What type of star is it? Describe the size and density of this star.Explanation / Answer
SOLUTION:-
Luminosity is related to temperature, luminosity of stars refers to their intrinsic total energy output (in all wavelengths), while absolute magnitude usually only refers to their brightness in the visible wavelengths. the greater the greater the luminosity the brighter the star appears.. the luminosity is the measure of how much energy per unit time the star is releasing (i.e. the rate of energy release). This energy is mostly emitted as electromagnetic radiation (light), however other forms of energy, like neutrino emission, is included as well.
Numerically it related with other compoinent are follows.
T = (5770K) L^(0.25 c)
where...
T = the star's effective temperature
L = the star's luminosity in sols (1 sol = 3.826e26 watts)
c0.10 for upper main sequence
c0.09 for stars like the sun
c0.12 for red dwarfs
