1.
Per capita income is the average that does not talk about the inherent issues lying in our society. But, income inequality talks about the difference in income between different social classes (primarily rich and poor). It indicates the issues faced by our society that can be used to gauge the social health of societies.
Lower inequality in income refers to the similarity in purchasing power and disposable income among people. It facilitates them to come together at one platform and society prospers. In the reverse scenario when inequality is bigger, the economic gap among different group of people increases and prosperity in society suffers apart from many other problems such as governance and exploitation. That’s why inequality is a good measure of social health of developed societies.
Income inequality also causes human beings to adopt a different mentality. Affluent class of people thinks that they are made to rule and act accordingly, whereas lower income groups think that rich people are responsible for all their troubles. Thus, conflicts start and divided between these two groups increases. It causes the establishment of social structures and people forms their societies on the basis of similarity in income, purchasing power or social status.
