Station Model Interpretation
The objective of this exercise is to practice station model interpretation. Fill in the appropriate observations with units.
A few notes:
The temperature and dewpoint should be expressed in degrees Fahrenheit.
Wind direction may be expressed with the word description (for example, northeast).
Wind speed should be noted in knots. You may either round to the nearest 5 or write the entire range (for example, the answer for one long barb could be either 10 knots or 8-12 knots; see page 470).
For pressure:
If the 3 digit number is greater than 500, put a “9” in front and a decimal point before the last digit to find the pressure in millibars. For example, 864 becomes 986.4 mb and 912 becomes 991.2mb.
If the 3 digit number is less than 500, put a “10” in front and a decimal point before the last digit to find the pressure in millibars. For example, 133 becomes 1013.3 mb and 045 becomes 1004.5 mb.
The current weather symbols indicate significant weather, like precipitation or fog or haze, etc. If there is not a symbol for the current weather, either leave the space blank or note that there’s no significant current weather.
