Explanation / Answer

With over 2.3 million employees it has worldwide, Walmart had faced a number of lawsuits and issues with regards to its employees. These issues involved low wages, poor working conditions in stores, inadequate health care, as well as issues like company's strong anti-union policies. In November 2013, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) announced that it had found in 13 U.S. states Wal-Mart had pressurized its employees not to engage in any strikes on Black Friday, and had also illegally disciplined workers who engaged in strikes. Critics show the Walmart's high turnover rate as an evidence of unhappy workforce, although other factors may be a reason. Approximately, 70% of its workforce leave within the first year of joining. Despite this high turnover rate, the company is still able to affect the US unemployment rates. It was proved in a study by Oklahoma State University which states that, "Walmart is found to have substantially lowered the relative unemployment rates of blacks in those counties where it is present, but to have had only a limited impact on relative incomes after the influences of other socio-economic variables were taken into account."
