Question

This is one question.

37. On Figure 6 sketch and label a colored line that best represents a daily temperature graph for a typical cloudy day. Figure 7, below, is the hourly recorded temperature for Pocatello on October 18, 2015. The day was mostly cloudy with a few periods of scattered clouds. In addition, there were two periods of light rain, one between about 1am and 5am and one between 9pm and midnight. Refer to Figure 7 to answer Questions 38 and 39.

38. How does the sketch of temperatures you made in Question 37 compare to the temperatures in Figure 7? Your answer should include a comparison of not only the temperatures, but the shape of the line.

39. If the clouds had cleared during the evening, say by 8pm, what temperature would you expect it to be at 11:59pm? Why?

Figure 7 - Hourly Temperature for Pocatello, ID on October 18, 2015 90 70 28 60 23 50 18 40 30 12:00AM 13 12:00 AM 6:00 AM 12:00 PM 6:00 PM Time

Explanation / Answer

38. For exact comparision Figure 6 is required but I'm doing it by Figure 7 only. The trend shows that after rainfall i.e. one between about 1am and 5am and one between 9pm and midnight, the temperature drops down but during the whole day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the temperature is not varying that much a very few variation are there that too during noon because of high heat intensity during that time following but from 4 p.m. onwards the temperature is following downwards slopes and rainfall accelerates this downward trend of temperature.

39. If the clouds had cleared during the evening, say by 8pm the temperature will decrease beacause if the clouds were there then it will keep the radiation inside the earth's atmosphere but in the absence of clouds the temperature will decrease and this will also assisted by the rainfall.
