Question
1. Contouring Data Exercise On Map E, draw contours to fit the data shown. Label all contours. Note: To simplify the exercise, distances of elevation points to values. To get you started, the 260-foot contour is shown. proportional from contours need not be made Before you begin to draw the contours, answer these questions .According .If the 260-foot to the 260-foot contour, in which direction does the stream flow? To the contour had not been drawn for you, how would you know in which directio stream flows? .List th e necessary contours that have to be drawn on the map: 292 301 303 298 279 291 278 295 267 300 271 288 265 260 274 270 279 302 284 128 304 273 284 298 C. I.-10 FEET STREAM SHOWN BY DASHED LINE MAP E: Elevation and stream data to be contoured.Explanation / Answer
1. As can be seen in the contour map the contours that intersect the stream are 279, 274 and 260. Since we know that the river will always flow from higher elevations to the lower elevations. So it will flow from higher elevation contour which is 279 to lower elevation contour line which is 260. So the direction of flow of stream will be from east towards west.
If 260 contour line is not drawn we can see the elevation of other contours. Since we know that stream will always flow from higher elevation to lower elevation. In this way we can estimate the flow direction of stream.
The necessary contour line which needs to be drawn on the map are 270 and 280 contour line because the contour as shown in the map is 10 feet and also by drawing these contour lines we can easily determine the direction of stream flow.
2. The necessary contour line that needs to be drawn on the map are 260, 280 and 300. Since the contour is 20 feet and also by drawing these contour lines we can determine the direction of stream flow.
Since the stream always flow from higher elevations to the lower elevation. The stream is first divided into two tributaries stream in its upper part and after that it combines into one single stream in its lower part. So on the basis of contours we can see that the stream from the higher elevation contour i.e. 277 and 287 contour towards 258 contour line. So the stream is flowing towards south.
