Question

I am having a problem with questions like this and need help with the equation/method to use to find the answer.

What is the percentage increase in production when valued at 2009 prices is ___21.6______percent. Answer to 1 decimal place.

2008: Lattes  97/$7 each    Cappuccinos  53/$5 each

2009: Lattes 114/$8 each   Cappuccinos  69/7$ each

The answer is what was given after trying to figure it out, I still can't figure it out even with the answer. Step by step instructions would be help as I have a learning disability.

Thanks in advance!

Explanation / Answer

The point here is that we are using 2009 prices,

the production in 2009 according to 2009 prices is 114 * 8 + 69 * 7 = 1395

the prouction of 2008 in 2009 prices is 97 * 8 + 53 * 7 = 1147

Percentage increase is ( 1395 - 1147 ) * 100 / 1147 = 21.6 Percent.

The trick here is to look at the prices of 2009 and forget 2008 prices. Please pick mine as the best answer if you like it. Ready to clear further doubts
