Question
2 After addressing the Project Engineer's concerns, he then shows you a map of the local region prepared by the contracted geologist, whose contract has now finished. The PE would like you to answer the following queries with respect to the provided geological map: List the intrusive and extrusive events evident in this area? How many unconformities are evident within the area? What structural geological processes appear evident from this map? What metamorphic processes appear evident? In which direction does the metamorphic grade increase across the Western side of the map? C. d. f. What does the difference in sedimentary rock-type to the north of the map suggest? g What's the approximate strike of the dipping layers? h. Outline, in detail, the sequence of geological events that may have occurred in this area? 30-l Shale Sandstone Slate PhyTite Diorite ca Schist GraniteExplanation / Answer
Answer
Area composed of Metamorphic rock (Gneiss , Mica Schist, Phyllite, Slate, Shale ) were uplifted, tilted in NE direction with dip angle 30 Degree, submerged and deposited by mudstone. The area again uplifted and eroded followed by deposition of sandstone. After this, a sill of diorite is intruded in the metamorphic rock following their dip direction and dip angle. Then area was undergone multiple faulting events. Finally, area was intruded by granite dyke.
