38. Flood basalt: volcano z

The reason I chose volcano z is that the flood basalt usually coats large stretches of land or ocean floor ranging up to thousands of square km. They tend to spread for distances that are roughly proportional to the third power of their thickness. As shown in the fig., the volcano z come very close to this description than the other two.

39. Explosive eruptions: volcano x

The explosive volcanoes usually build composite volcano or stratovolcano. They are usually conical in shape and can be characterized by a steep profile. The volcano x comes close to this description.

40. Basalt flows:  volcano y

Basalt flows are noneruptive, voluminous, and characterized by relatively low viscosity. They generally advance less than one mile or kilometre per hour on gentle slopes and may reach more than 30 mi (50 km) from their source or erupting vent. Volcano y comes close to this description.
