Explanation / Answer
'Postcolonialism' questions a global order dictated by chief state players & their dominant interests & approaches of viewing the world. It confronts beliefs which have taken hold about the manner in which states act & what drives them. It compels us to ask difficult questions about ‘how’ & ‘why’ a hierarchical global order has developed & it also challenges conventional International Relations’ core presumptions about notions like power & how it functions. It compels us to take into account the daily discriminations/ oppressions that can show themselves in harshest terms thru a particular time of crisis. Whether it has to do with the intimidation of nuclear weaponries/ the deaths of laborers in plants manufacturing items for Western markets, postcolonialism requires us to examine these concerns from the viewpoints of those who lack power. Whereas it shares certain common view with some other critical theories in this aspect, it also gives a distinct approach. It brings together a profound concern about histories of imperialism & colonialism, how these are transmitted to the present – & how oppressions / inequalities entrenched in class, race , gender relations on a worldwide scale matter for our comprehension of international relations. By paying attention to how these facets of the global play out in particular contexts, it provides us a vital & an alternative theoretical lens which gives us a distinct set of theoretical instruments to reveal the complications of this world.
