It seems most people consider investors and a solid business plan as the critical components required to ensure success for a small business, but have they forgotten about effective management? Leaders act as the backbone for a small business, guiding members of the team to become better. Great leaders make tough decisions on a daily basis to ensure the company achieves its goals, while taking advantage of opportunities that arise. In addition to quick decision-making, effective managers need to identify and act against potential problems before they become company-wide issues. In your opinion, what attributes are most important for leaders to possess to ensure they promote and foster an environment that is conducive to increased team morale? What are some of the challenges they need to overcome? Do you think any person can be trained as a leader, or do you think that they are born with innate skills that make them an effective leader?

The first attribute important to the leader is effective communicator that makes everyone on the same level of understanding, knowledge and plan. It builds an environment that is conducive to the effective team building. The second attribute is charisma and ability to troubleshoot the problems faced by the team. It brings confidence among the team members towards the leader. The third attribute is to promote the original ideas and help the team to contribute with their own views. It brings involvement and issues can be resolved in the beginning also, helping improve the team morale.
Though there are some challenges also. The first challenge is that employees belong to different socio-cultural backgrounds and it becomes difficult to bring them on one platform of organizational culture. The second challenge is to develop tolerance among the employees towards the each other. It is an important task if a leader wants to develop a gelled team. The third challenge is to develop uniformity in ethical approach among the team members as each member regards different values as ethics as per the cultural learnings. It needs modifications. So, these are some of the challenges.
Any person can be trained as a leader if a suitable environment of learning is provided. For example, a good follower of a leader, can also become an effective leader, if he or she learns the method to convince people, come ahead to troubler shoot and make effective communication with a clear plan. It starts making people realize the capabilities of the new leader and people become the follower of a new leader. So, a leader can be developed by nurturing leadership qualities.
